Book two of Twilight of the Gods

Raquel Lindgren knows what her future holds. An arranged marriage. A new home in Ragnarok, Iowa, with another clan of refugees from Asgard. She should be happy. But there's a mental block preventing her from tapping in to her true abilities as a witch. And she's more attracted to the best man than she is to the groom…

Fen can't believe he's falling for his best friend's future wife. As a hound, a wolf shifter, his duty lies with the pack. He's seen too many hounds destroyed by love, and he's sworn never to take a mate, never to have children of his own. He can't deny his desire for Raquel, but she deserves more than he can offer her.

Raquel's been raised to trust in magic, her clan and her destiny. But when a vengeful demon threatens to break out of Asgard and destroy the clan, Raquel learns she must trust in love if she is to take the future into her own hands.

I am not sure how Witch Bound (Twilight of the Gods)ended up on my radar, but I liked it. There is a touch of Norse Myth in the background and I really liked the leading lady Raquel(Rocky) who is a witch (whose powers are potentially great but blocked and unavailable to her) heading into an arranged marriage with stars of the fairy-tale-happily-ever-after variety in her eyes. Even though her intended Christian is gorgeous and charming, she loses her romantic notions about the impending union pretty quickly upon finding out that she is a duty to him and that she is needed for what she can do for her new clan.

While grieving over her broken fantasy, Raquel finds a sympathetic ear in Christian's 'best man', Fen, who is a a shape-shifting Hound who hates the 'curse' of his species - a second class citizen and one who will be Bound forever to a mate if he does the horizontal mambo. I loved Fen and the interactions between him and Rocky, the author does a good job making us see a 'draw' between these two that is on a personal level and making them friends before bringing in the attraction that they 'can not' act upon considering both of their situations.

Witch Bound doesn't end up being quite a love triangle and the author doesn't make any of the characters jerkish or dishonest as they try to sort out the many obstacles in the way to the HEA. I really enjoyed the story and liked the addition of the powerful ancient male 'witch' to the cast (can you say sequel bait:) - I will definitely read more of this series. I started Witch Bound without having read the previous book (which worked just fine for me by the way) but now I just may have to go back and read Demon Crossings (Twilight of the Gods) while I am waiting for the next book.

Witch Bound Twilight of the Gods Book 2 edition by Eleri Stone Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews

Okay part of a three part (maybe more) Characters were not as approachable as the first.
True love. Magical Norse mythology along with magic and witches. The wild hunt is not ghostly or for the faint of heart
Asking me which POV the author wrote the story in made me remember why I enjoyed it so much. It took me out of the critical reading mode and straight into a wonderful world. I recommend highly.
This was my first experience with anything other than the authors Lost City Shifters series, and I must say that this just proves that no matter what Eleri Stone sets her mind to, it will score a home run with me! This one was much different from her shifter series, but still has an amazing world, fascinating characters, and Eleri's awesome turn of phrase. I loved it, and I will definitely be reading more in the series!
5 out of 5 stars!! This is a romance about a girl who is still coming into her own while being thrown into situation after situation she never expected to be in, especially when one of those situations happens to be falling for her groom's best man!

I could not get enough of this story, mostly because of how Rocky and Fen's relationship comes together! Fen & Rocky have this instant attraction that neither (at first) wants to mess with--because of what it would do to Rocky's family, the groom/Fen's best friend, and Fen & Christian's clan--but as everything grows between them, once they start up a friendship, by the end of the book it's hard for them to stay apart no matter what their original plans were. =0) RO-MAN-TIC in a very sweet non-classy way. *hehee*

However, I did love this novels plot, how it worked into the previous novel (even though I haven't read it and don't plan too) and gives you a bigger idea as to how this little town really works with the politics of it all. Definitely keeps you on your toes, especially when you have Rocky who just can't help herself when it comes to being in the middle of all of the trouble. =0)

I recommend this novel and series to anyone who likes to read suspenseful paranormal romances that have a little erotica to them.

Edited to add very mild spoiler regarding when the main characters resolve their issues contained in the review.

I was surprised at just how much I enjoyed this book. It was featured on a blog I read (Smart Bitches Trashy Books) and I bought it because the price was right and I needed something to dig into. Little did I know that this book was pretty much all my book catnip including but not limited to paranormal, arranged marriage, fish out of water heroine, VIRGIN hero, angsty couple who can't be together because of reasons. When you're reading a romance novel, emotional engagement is really what you're looking for, yeah? Well, I felt connected completely from beginning to end, my stomach in knots while I waited to get to the end.

Racquel is a witch belonging to a clan and has been promised in marriage since childhood to a guy from another clan. The clans are living here in our world but are basically offshoots of a Norse mythological universe. If you saw the movie Thor, imagine that a bunch of people living across Heimdall's bridge decided to move to America. The world building was interesting, but most importantly, it was refreshing. Haven't seen anything like it before and it kept me engaged. Anyway, Racquel meets her new fiancé but feels more of a connection with his best friend Ren. Who, for various reasons, is a virgin and can't get involved with women. Meanwhile, Racquel is struggling with her witchiness and her ability, dealing with ornery clan members and her own attraction to a man who keeps pushing her away.

This book would have actually been a five star read for me but I felt the resolution between Fen and Racquel could have happened a bit earlier. It was left until the last handful of pages and while it was definitely worth the wait, I probably would have preferred to see it happen a bit sooner. The two don't even share a kiss until the end and while that upped the angst level it also made the ending seem a little rushed - although the book manages to be quite steamy despite the main characters staying away from each other, quite a feat! Nevertheless...I loved this book and immediately bought the first book in the series when I finished. If you like paranormals with an arranged marriage angle also try Wendy Higgins' "See Me".

Thanks for the great book Eleri Stone! I trust you're hard at work on a book for Christian, Audrey, and maybe even something for the ancient witch Racquel rescued? I'll be looking forward to it!
